Lullabye

a sunlit room in a brand new home
you know we’ve got your room prepared
the crib and the cradle and the painted walls
animals and the rocking chair
in such a short time you’ll be here
and then you’ll share our happy home
i’ll giveyou maybe 20 years
then you’ll be out on your own

but all my love is not my own
all my time is yours alone
all i have and all i own
got it all on loan

a darkened room at the county home
i’m a ragged man at the end of the road
my family’s left me all alone
while me memories and my health erode
in all the place i have been
and all the things i thought i’d earned
there’s a loss with every win
if there’s one lesson i have learned
